About Andri
The saxophone. After an epic music career in all areas of play, in the 21st century it will be associated primarily with the Epic Sax Guy and George Michaels “Careless Whisper”. Could the question be asked: is the saxophone dead? Andri Schärli would laugh. The Swiss saxophonist, clarinet player and composer is looking for new ways that go beyond genre boundaries.
Regardless of whether in connection with free improvisation and art (Pinselswing Collective), as a band leader (Cort Piil, Andri Art), a session musician for pop projects in the studio and on stage (Hùm, Al Pride, Kummerbuben, Verona 3000) or in classical jazz formations (Big Band of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, appearances with David Liebman, Ohad Thalmor, Dan Weiss, Lars Møller at the KKL or at the Unerhört Festival Zurich): Schärli is interested in many things.
Next to that, he performed internationally in the Netherlands (Grachtenfestival), Norway (Nattjazz, Kongsberg jazzfestival), Germany and Switzerland (Unerhört Festival, BeJazz, Kopek Festival).
